On the evening of Saturday, October 15th 2005 at the Art Gallery of Calgary, three art installations and seven musical artists will be spread throughout it's five incredible rooms.
Kultura is meant to engage those in attendance with an elevated, multi-sensory artistic social experience. The fusion of contemporary adult electronic sounds capes with other mediums such as video, canvas, print and installation art will allow for a culturally creative and engaging evening.
The entire notion of art rests on the idea of being able to convey ones self in new ways and new formats, endlessly exploring the inner psyche for new forms of expression. Society evolves with the changing ideas of the people within it, and we at Area709 are very excited to create this unique opportunity for those present to connect with contemporary culture.
VISUAL
Texture City
Investigate the contemporary city and how its public spaces, roads, architecture and urban infrastructure become part of the social fabric of our daily lives. Explore three interactive installations created by renowned Calgary architect Marc Boutin, his architectural firm Marc Boutin Architect, and nine architecture students from the University of Calgary. This timely exhibition incorporates photography, models, drawings and video.
Remnants
Alberta photographer Ray Van Nes is fascinated by the forms and textures he finds in abandoned industrial sites from the early 20th century. Seeking beauty in places that others overlook, Van Nes has photographed the Turner Valley Gas Plant and other sites across Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Thirteen of his evocative photographs are showcased in Remnants.
The Order of Things
Ontario artist Danny Hussey's mixed media paintings are influenced by science texts, illustrations and theories. In this intriguing exhibition, Hussey visually interprets a complex scientific theory using images of household objects and a non-traditional painting process as his tools
VISUAL/AURAL
Byron Pope
Expressing creative energies through just one medium is simply not enough for Byron. By sharing his passion for ambient and down tempo music, as well as for intelligent and purposeful visuals he is able to create a truly inspiring experience.
AURAL
Mike Zajko
Left-field broken beats and experimental idm are his specialty, Mike will surely get you hooked with his strangely eclectic and yet very danceable tracks by blending jazz, glitch, and assorted nightly delights.
Rusty Ezard
Shifting away from his trademark mind bending peak time tracks and moving into the realm of ambient and down tempo, Rusty will of course be adding his own unique and sometimes quirky twists.
Sons of Aurora
Two individuals who are always eager to share their love of music, Norris Lam and Darvin Knorr will be exploring the deeper and more hauntingly beautiful side of down tempo, psy-dm and progressive break beats.
Wes Straub
Intent on engaging the mind AND the body, Wes will be serving up his own brand of very 'un-straight up' progressive house and breaks that is ripe with artistic originality and sprinkled with a touch of warmth reminiscent of a poolside afternoon.

Re: Oct 15th KULTURA : Full Details!!!
Fri, October 14, 2005 - 1:02 PMAlright, so I have focussed in on some pretty incredibly beautiful progressive breaks, and a few choice progressive house tracks for my set. We are not going to be rocking it too hard at the AGC, it is an art gallery after all, but the upstairs room will definitely have a stronger groove going for those who want to dance. Downstairs will be an ocean of downtempo and more chill sounds which I am sure will get people moving as well.
It's going to be an art party to remember!
